maternity & style?

so…i’m really wondering if it’s possible to stay stylish during your pregnancy. i mean, i guess, i know it can be done… i’ve seen other women do it (jora + cole) but ha so help me, it really feels like quite the feat lately. and on top of that i feel like it’s two separate up-hill battles i’m facing. the first being finishing out this preggo time and then the second being having good comfy options for afterwards when you’re a zombie, battling leaking & all the new bodily functions/liquids that come along with yourself just giving birth and the new babe you’re carrying around ;) …on the outside.

i’ve already surpassed the stage of being able to wear my old pants w/ a bella band (they don’t fit over my thighs or ass any longer) and many of my shirts just show off a lil too much lower belly for me to feel socially acceptable going out in public (sorry jill – i know, i still wear them to work out in) and as i’m in these last two months – feeling big and just generally starting to hit the uncomfortable stage – i can’t help but want to simply still feel good, pretty, fit, & stylee still.

after reading a couple posts online i’ve decided one thing i’m for sure going to treat myself to (along with pre-natal massages weekly from here until the end) is a nice set of pajama’s and a nice silk robe. because well, let’s face it, i’ve come to accept that the chances of getting really dressed (1. considering i’ll be sleeping 2 hrs at a time and 2. because well it’s hard enough for me to really break out of the sweats during the winter cozy months wrapped up in a blanket at home anyway) are going to be slim to none. *for the first week or two only people, don’t worry i’m not going to give up on life as a whole, ha…just going to take advantage of being home, staying home, and enjoying my new lil grom those first precious weeks*

so i’m currently on the hunt. does anyone have any great pj recommendations? i just bought this set from old navy – but i’d like to spoil myself with a nice set…

i also just bought myself this silk kaftan off etsy…which may not necessarily be easy to nurse in – but hopefully will be comfy and make me feel like i’m floating around the casa (again on my 2 hrs of sleep) ;) heeh.. and i’d still like specifically to get a silk robe to throw over my nursing pj’s, sweats, etc… any suggestions? i’ve been looking at anthro’s but nothing is standing out to me…

hmmm…with so many great mom sites out there and trendy moms that i personally know-why does this feel so hard all of a sudden? what am i missing?…

there’s just something about hand-writing it all down…

so after finding out i had a babe brewing in my belly, i searched and downloaded an app that would 1. help me track what was supposed to be going on, wince i was (and still am) clueless, 2. help me document what changes my body was going through… and while yes, it’s all great that i sort of kept up with the huge milestones, there’s just something about hand-writing it out that makes it more meaningful and for me more likely that i’ll follow-through.

so i’ve definitely decided two things: the first, if i have a second child, i am going to take more time to track and write out what my body/mind goes through during the whole 9 month process and the second that i am definitely going to track and write out what these first few weeks/months/years bring once the grom joins our familia ;)

so in my search for a babe journal, i spotted these on design mom…thoughts?

omg. yes please

so sarah just sent over these boots…and seriously!? umm..yes please.

these boots are so flipping adorable and truly i think could work for a lil buddy or a lil pretty lady. ha and the best part would be if they went all the way up to their chubby little knees!

and these are also pretty awesome ~ ha i can picture these lil elf shoes w/ a gnome hat :) ohhhh mannnn… hah.

and if i were having a summer babe i’d be all over these sandals a well

i love me some elbee.

so we got our crib!! claire + larry, johnny’s parents bought it for us and it landed thursday evening and we just set it up. so excited!

the nursery is slowly but surely starting to take shape…we now have our rug, teepee, crib, and a rocking chair.

on the soon to come list: a changing table, MMM painted buffalo soldiers & feathers, and my mobile

p.s. – check out the rad quilt hannah made us <3

to doula or not to doula

ok, ok, so whether or not to have a doula isn’t even a question for us because well

1. i can’t even imagine in my tired/worn out/exhausted/semi-nervous of not knowing what to expect state the kinds of things i might say to john when he tells me “keep going, you’re doing great” [but as an idea, things like “eat it buddy. you try doing this while i smile and say ‘keep going’ oh yeh and don’t touch me. ” ha start to come to mind.] :)

and 2. since we’ve decided to give birth at the midwifery center; the midwives are in and out of the room while you’re laboring and the quest into the unknown freaks john + i out too much to not have someone constantly there to reassure us we’re on track, doing the right thing, and yes that gross stuff that just exited my body is completely normal…

so we’ve started looking at doula’s. last night i met my first one and can i just say: she is FREAKING ADORABLE like instantly, i wanted to say “hey either way, if we go with you or not–do you think we could be friends?” her style, her personality, her boots! ha, every little piece of this girl made me want to hug her and call her my friend. her “downside” is that she isn’t technically certified yet, but has acted as a doula one other time and just gave birth herself 10 months ago ~ and well most of you know my perspective (as a college drop out) on credentials and their importance. to me it’s all about connection, comfortability and authenticity. she doesn’t act like she’s this expert, she doesn’t talk herself up – she just shares her stories and explains how her passion for being a doula and helping women down their birthing path is the direction she wants to take. and i think it’s refreshing.

…besides can i really picture myself being any more comfortable around a woman in her mid-forties just because she’s certified? i mean, this person is going to be (alongside john of course) my rock – there for all the goods, bads, excitement and disgustingness that is having a babe…

we’re going to participate in one of those “meet our doula’s” nights at either the birthing center or a local baby boutique but i think i’m pretty set :) (and once it’s official, i can stalkerishly steal one of her fb pics to show you all just how adorbs she is) heh

belly bliss – night out!

so, the lovely melissa bought me a gift certificate to belly bliss + i drug johnny along to their belly night out.

we ate good snacks, talked with other preggos, and got henna done on our bellies :) my henna unfortunately didn’t stick, but it was fun all the same, and i got this lovely photo as documentation of the night.

the babe in my belly is moving ALL around ALL the time and i cannot wait to meet it!
