ohhh sookie

so in a bout of craziness. we adopted another dog. (finally, i have an excuse for the collar! ;) of course which i instantly purchased) ha-yes, for those that know me…i’m still the one who weekly says “ahhh, i’m so over gnarly – she woke rocco up again…” and have in the past said “let’s just get rid of her!” – of course that was just talking, i really don’t think i could ever consider it. ;)

but on highlands mommies (the mom mafia of our neighborhood) i saw a posting “need good home for our 3 y/o bernese mt dog” ha so i instantly emailed and asked if she was still available and if we could come meet her that evening. john, rocco + i went to visit and meet her, with gnarly in tow. they got along great! we took the night to think it over and the next day at 3:30 we were picking her up.

gnarly on the left, sookie on the right

she’s extremely sweet. only 2 weeks younger than gnarly and about the same size. her name was sierra, but we’ve changed it to sookie. yes as in sookie stackhouse. (click here if you have no idea what i’m talking about) she instantly bonded with us and is day by day becoming more a part of our family.

and our family, occasionally, includes riley

my last minute wishlist

so it’s december 23rd… our son is now 4 wks old – 1 month tomorrow! (i CANNOT believe how fast it’s gone already! which, yes, i know…ALL new parents say that…but it’s so freaking true!) with all the family in town, getting adjusted to life’s biggest change and just the overall craziness that winter brings to our lives ~ johnny and i are just starting our holiday shopping. ha. so here’s my last minute wish list

1. bensimon nils – i already own the lace ups and have the slip on’s on my to buy list for this summer…but these high-top lace up sneakers seem like a perfect match for me this winter. and bonus-the taupe is on sale currently at piperlime!

2. boob nursing hoodie – as rocco and i are starting to venture out more and more, nursing in public is a bridge i’m having to cross. this swedish designed hoodie makes it comfy and discreet.

3. this floral kaftan from etsy seller silkandmore ~ i’ve previously mentioned that i bought a silk kaftan but i think this super soft mulmul cotton one would be great too. kaftan’s are taking over robes ;) let me tell you!

4. the laguiole cheeses knives set from crate and barrel. we received two sets of the steak knives in mineral last year for christmas and i think this set in natural would be the perfect compliment!

5. the tea and toast butter dish from anthro – i dropped and broke our butter dish awhile ago and now that breakfast is super important to jump start my sleep deprived days – eating my english muffin would be more tempting w/ room temp butter from this puppy than trying to spread it from the fridge like i’m currently doing

6. the DWR teak swing…which happens to be on sale right now! i’d like two please :) to hang off the steel beams on the balcony off our bedroom [yes, i realize this one doesn’t really fall into the practical category…but :) i’m sure i could attempt to justify it and be quite successful]

FOR THE GNAR [because a gift for our pup is sort of like a gift for me]

7. Berner blank cards – Gnarly is always getting gifts, bones, toys, treats etc…so having a cute way to say thanks! would be awesome and these would be perfect.

8.  Gnarly got one of these petstages no stuffing squeaky toys (they sell the alligator one at target!) from my parents when they came out to meet rocco and it’s pretty awesome. with no stuffing – it wouldn’t matter if it got destroyed and the body is broken into 3 sections that offer a different type of squeak in each…she goes off in our backyard playing with it. and i think this zebra one is super cute.

9. this rattan outdoor dog bed is awesome. gnarly loves spending as much time as possible outdoors during the winter, esp if it’s snowing and i’d love to give her this option to cuddle up in. [dwr has a small dog one on sale right now that gnar would be too big for…] this is from the uk but to have something w/ a lil protection from the wind or from sun during the summer would do us just riiight.

FOR MY LITTLE MAN [which yes, just like gifts for the dog pretty much equate to gifts for me]

10. the woodours activity mat – now that little man is a month old, he’s able to visually focus on things and i’m sort of in love with all the woodour products (esp that mobile!) so this mat seems to be a perfect fit. i love how it’s gender neutral and all the pieces that come apart making it multi-functional too. sign me up!

11. cloth wipe solution drops the whole cloth diaper thing is working out really well for us and these drops make the wipes process super smooth. we purchased a good majority of our diapers from the giggling green bean and while i think we’ve got a good stockpile of diapers, i still foresee many more shopping trips there in our future.

12. and OF COURSE the american apparel infant tank tops. i seriously would dress rocco in one of these EVERY DAY, we only own 3 right now…but i am considering buying like 50 more. because, well…with a name like rocco, why wouldn’t you wear a muscle tank daily? and they happen to currently be on sale!

…hopefully most of you aren’t like us and have all your shopping done and have been done well in advance of the mall madness. :) happy holidays! xo-p

4th of july weekend we went camping. it wasn’t my first camping experience in colorado, but it was pretty freaking incredible.

first a little background – our friends sammy + ellie…well the best way to put it is: are very good to know :) they’re snowboard instructors during the winter and i cannot even begin to explain the countless times they’ve both been so patient in teaching me tricks, tips, the line to take, and of course just core basic riding skills – the list could just go on and on. and the ‘very good’ to know part comes in because :) they spoil me. they help me tie my boots when i can’t get them tight enough, they let me borrow their gloves if my fingers are too cold, they hook up lunch on the mt and show me ha the sneak ways to get the biggest bang for your buck, and above anything else are dear dear friends whom we love a ton.

camping with these two in the summer is basically the same deal as riding with them in the winter though, you’re given the royal treatment and they take care of everything. now everyone knows how busy 4th weekend is for camping – so sammy + ellie went up mid-week and scouted the space, laid down tents and set up our camp, we truly just had to show up. and boy, was the site we showed up to perfect. nestled just above avon, our spot was primo. big, open, the food tables & stoves set up, the campfire area practically perfect, our tent pre-set up for us. a flower meadow just a bit down the road, atv’s full of gas and ready to go & an elk he shot marinating all day. ha-yes, perfect, spoiled, and VERY well taken care. :)
and to top it off – we were dog-sitting yeager all weekend so we had the gnar attack & yeags running around (joined by riley + winnie) AND james+jess in tow, and a chance to have a quality goodbye time w/ jevy+casey who happen to be moving on to OR.

it was a weekend of perfection and if that’s what my future camping experiences hold- bring em on for the rest of summer :)

…and p.s. – i hope when i have kiddo’s they’ll have “camping sleep-over’s” just like this :)

barrgghhh puppies!!

sample sale shopping is starting and today one of jevy’s friend’s brought in her 4 mo. berner pup!

add these to my new to-make list

this awesome address file…although they’re a super reasonable price, so I will buy it if I get too impatient! I’m hoping to collect scraps of paper that are laying around the house to create the colored cards. [i have a true love to good old-fashion hand-written address & phone books.]

spotted on rifle

and a rope necklace – i bought some nautical rope to try and make these…which i failed and never did because the rope i bought was too thick..i was thinking we were going to have GIANT BERNERS, but :) our pups turned out to be like mini dogs…so I think I need to go back and order some thiner styles… but still might attempt to make them this spring/summer with my *HOPEFULLY* newly found extra time ;) ha. yeh right, but i’ll try! :)

DIY on lovemaegan

…in addition to lots and lots of fun wedding projects to come in the next few weeks! both my girls are less than 4 months away!

Exiciting!! :)

incan holiday

announcement number one. i am officially a damiano incan [and not just via marriage ;)] this past week i quit my job and will start with the DAMIANO INCan crew on the 21st…through the winter season, slinging soft goods with miss hannah.

announcement number two. last friday we ;) had our christmas party. check elbee’s blog for photos.

soo excited for these girls.. [but will terribly =/ miss katie]

:) and here’s gnarly – well because i friggin love her.

corncob round 2.

so. my poor pup whom i love practically more than life itself, was sad last night. she came home from work with john and was just lazy…she didn’t want to play, she barely stood up, she just wanted us to be in visual site & to lay on her bed….and when she wasn’t interested in dinner-we knew something was wrong, gnarly = obsession with all things food.
so when she didn’t eat again this morning and was looking sad again and acting lethargic we decided it might be a good idea to take her in. an x-ray later we discovered that she has once again eaten a corn cob (which of course never fully break down, aka she can’t digest it…thus it’s been sitting in her stomach for the past few weeks breaking down as much as possible and finally got small enough to pass from her stomach to her intestines where it got stuck and cause gas build-up.)

just more reason to name our next dog (if we can ever afford to get one) “doesn’t eat corn cobs.”

UPDATE! Surgery went well and was successful, she’s resting up and should be home tomorrow!
