the geometry of pasta

as i’ve said in the past, i’m sort of in love with quirk books. so when i found out they were willing to send bloggers a free copy of their new book – the geometry of pasta – i jumped on the chance and submitted a request & guess what?! they sent me one! so i am committing (on my own accord, they only ask that you write a review of the book) to try each and every type of pasta in the book. many have a few recipes per type of noodle, so not sure if i’ll hit up each and every recipe – but i will try all those delicious perfectly uniquely shaped noodles – ha no timeline promises, besides…over my lifetime…because truly w/ a babe on the way, who knows how long it’ll take me to do anything.

check out their trailer for the book :) it’s cute.

tonight i had casarecce [meaning “homemade”, it’s an s-shaped pasta sectioned into short lengths – i had mine with a cream sauce & sausage] ~ i’m thumbing my way through all the recipes but thus far they seem pretty freaking awesome. not to mention the graphics of the book are rad and it automatically makes me feel like i’ll be cooking a lot more pasta, just so i can keep the book out on the counter to show it off ;)

full review on the book and updates as i make my way through it all – to come.

race for a cure is this weekend!

help me reach my goal!

i have raised just over $300 but am aiming for $500~ spread the word and donate, even $5 or $10 if you can! xo, thank you!!

omg. yes please

so sarah just sent over these boots…and seriously!? umm..yes please.

these boots are so flipping adorable and truly i think could work for a lil buddy or a lil pretty lady. ha and the best part would be if they went all the way up to their chubby little knees!

and these are also pretty awesome ~ ha i can picture these lil elf shoes w/ a gnome hat :) ohhhh mannnn… hah.

and if i were having a summer babe i’d be all over these sandals a well

i love me some elbee.

happy berfday to me <3

so i have 3 berfday traditions that i started a few years back.

1. i buy myself a new perfume (which is funny because i actually never get to the point where i use the one fully from the previous year…or two years back even, since I’m not a perfume wearer – but I like to on my way to berfday dinner)

2. i buy myself a berfday dress… which i wear to that night’s dinner + again and again and again :) for many of the following years.

and 3. i eat my dessert first at dinner. this always throws the waiter off because they either get bummed i’m wasting table space by not ordering or they skip me when it comes time to order :)

…this year i’m debating whether i just skip the whole dress part though, being preggo and to a point where it’s truly making a difference in my clothes – i’d much rather just be comfortable and again, my practical mind, needs to purchase things that i’ll actually wear again (besides the preggo necessities like larger sized underwear and bras, ha!) so rather than buying a dress that’s sized up or a maternity dress – i :) think i might actually just go buy some little joey’s for the babe to come from the giggling green bean.

i did however purchase tokyo milk cherry bomb perfume and plan on eating my dessert first this evening ;)

hope your day is fabulous <3

so we got our crib!! claire + larry, johnny’s parents bought it for us and it landed thursday evening and we just set it up. so excited!

the nursery is slowly but surely starting to take shape…we now have our rug, teepee, crib, and a rocking chair.

on the soon to come list: a changing table, MMM painted buffalo soldiers & feathers, and my mobile

p.s. – check out the rad quilt hannah made us <3

to doula or not to doula

ok, ok, so whether or not to have a doula isn’t even a question for us because well

1. i can’t even imagine in my tired/worn out/exhausted/semi-nervous of not knowing what to expect state the kinds of things i might say to john when he tells me “keep going, you’re doing great” [but as an idea, things like “eat it buddy. you try doing this while i smile and say ‘keep going’ oh yeh and don’t touch me. ” ha start to come to mind.] :)

and 2. since we’ve decided to give birth at the midwifery center; the midwives are in and out of the room while you’re laboring and the quest into the unknown freaks john + i out too much to not have someone constantly there to reassure us we’re on track, doing the right thing, and yes that gross stuff that just exited my body is completely normal…

so we’ve started looking at doula’s. last night i met my first one and can i just say: she is FREAKING ADORABLE like instantly, i wanted to say “hey either way, if we go with you or not–do you think we could be friends?” her style, her personality, her boots! ha, every little piece of this girl made me want to hug her and call her my friend. her “downside” is that she isn’t technically certified yet, but has acted as a doula one other time and just gave birth herself 10 months ago ~ and well most of you know my perspective (as a college drop out) on credentials and their importance. to me it’s all about connection, comfortability and authenticity. she doesn’t act like she’s this expert, she doesn’t talk herself up – she just shares her stories and explains how her passion for being a doula and helping women down their birthing path is the direction she wants to take. and i think it’s refreshing.

…besides can i really picture myself being any more comfortable around a woman in her mid-forties just because she’s certified? i mean, this person is going to be (alongside john of course) my rock – there for all the goods, bads, excitement and disgustingness that is having a babe…

we’re going to participate in one of those “meet our doula’s” nights at either the birthing center or a local baby boutique but i think i’m pretty set :) (and once it’s official, i can stalkerishly steal one of her fb pics to show you all just how adorbs she is) heh
