I just ordered 3 of these awesome ‘found soda crates’ from pottery barn (yes!! :) left over wedding gift certificate!)….which won’t ship until end of next month-ugh-but i’m super in love with the middle brown wood simple one!

They pick which ones you get (whatever is on the top of the stack) so send some brown wood juju my way! Can you imagine how rad it’d look to make a jewelry cabinet out of it! i want it! :)

2009/06/30

miss lesley (gnarly’s favorite person in the world and a fabulous lady johnny works with) has been embarking on 30 days of awesome.

day 20….was yesterday & involved a really rad charity golf tourney that her fam puts on for her cousin, michael, who passed away.

check it here: http://leftwithnothing.wordpress.com/2009/06/30/30daysofawesome-day-20/

and see why albeit a bit questionable—i shall still claim john as my man :)

monday – 5 things i <3

2009/06/29

1. http://lohisteakbar.com/

SteakbarFINALlogoWEBit hit 9pm before we knew it last night and johnny and i were stumped as to what to do for dinner. i hadn’t grocery shopped because i was crafting all day & lola/pho fusion close at 9, root down is closed on sunday – we wanted to stay close & convenient….then it hit us-let’s try the new steakbar up the street! lohi steakbar went in at 32nd/tejon – where north star tavern used to be – like literally 3 days ago…they serve food until MIDNIGHT and it was really delicious! reasonably priced & within walking distance, i think we have a new favorite ;) johnny tried their hamburger & i did the french onion soup (amazing!) and their meatball starter…we both were happy, full, and i’m already waiting to go back and try it out with james + jess ;)

2. jevy & casey’s new pup!

photoMAN! this little man is adorable. jevy (who works with john) was out of town for the weekend and in the most “non crazy wife” way ;) casey picked up a new pup for them from the humane society this past saturday! winston is 100% part of the damiano incan zoo (fitting in perfectly and instantly with riley & gnarly) and has already stolen my heart! unsure of his exact age or breed…he’s cuddley, sweet, & playful. he is .p.e.r.f.e.c.t. :)

3. http://www.lillet.com/lillet.jsp?d=h&&lang=fr

lilletcompletely taking a page from jora’s (jevy’s cousin) blog…this weekend we tried lillet and it was fabulous! mix 3 parts lillet to 1 part club soda (or pellegrino) and add a slice of orange. refreshing, the perfect amount of sweetness, and crisp – it is for sure to be a fav summer drink for our crew. just be careful how many of these puppies you take down ;) ha.

4. http://www.cb2.com/family.aspx?c=830&f=3769

GalvanizedSqPlantersS7these galvanized planters are awesome and the fact that they are on sale – umm hello!? they rock! jess picked up a few of them and we drill some drainage holes – since she plans on mostly using them outside…but they chic, sleek, and sturdy…totally on my “i want these!” list.

5. http://www.g-star.com/flash/content.html

m_gstar_womens_midge_straight_pant_comfortnatedenimdamagewashonce again it’s time for me to brag about how awesome johnny is :) ha….he surprised me last week by ordering me up a couple pairs of g-star raw denim. he had bought me a pair prior and liked how they fit-so he shipped out 4 styles (i only ended up keeping 2 of them) and one of them is the midge. super cute fit–prob my new fav pair – o – denim. ;)

miso cod/halibut w/ sesame green beans & cucumber salad – YUM!

2009/06/29

Friday night we had Jess & Chad over for dinner…all week John and I had been wanting to make miso black cod (also known as sablefish) but when we were at the fish market Friday afternoon, the halibut looked sooo good and fresh, we switched it up last minute. Delicious, healthy & easy–check it and try it out!

IMG_2946

MISO HALIBUT – GROCERY LIST

-fresh halibut or cod filet (depending on how hungry you are–we figured about 8 oz per person)

-1/2 cup sweet white miso paste

-5 tablespoon seasoned rice vinegar

-1/4 cup cane sugar

-2 tablespoon soy sauce

-1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

-1/4 cup grapeseed oil (vegetable oil would work too)

1. Preheat your broiler while you’re getting everything out & ready. Clean the fish – we left ours as a whole fillet, not portioned out (until after it was cooked-either way would be good, will cook a bit faster portioned out). Blend miso, rice vinegar, sugar, soy sauce, cayenne pepper in a food processor (or blender) – while mixing, gradually add in oil. Place cod & miso glaze in a ziploc bag and mix around (carefully to not rip apart the fish) until fillet is covered. Transfer fish to broil pan or rimmed baking sheet.

2. Broil fish 8″ from heat for about 3 minutes, or until starts to brown. Turn down temp to 450 and set on bake. Cook fish until center is opaque, depending on your thickness roughly 9 minutes.  Divide fish among plates – drizzle extra sauce over fish, if desired.

*while your fish is cooked, prep your cucumber and sesame green bean salads.

SESAME GREEN BEAN SALAD – GROCERY LIST (serves 4)

– 1 lb green beans, trimmed

-3 tablespoon olive oil

-1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil

-1 tablespoon white wine vinegar

-2 teaspoon dijon mustard

-2 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds

-S&P to taste

1. add trimmed grean beans to salted boiling water – cook for 5 minutes, remove and run under cold water to stop the beans from continuing to cook (can also submerge in ice water).

2. while beans are cooking, mix together all ingredients – coat cooled beans & set aside until ready to serve.

CUCUMBER SALAD – GROCERY LIST (serves 4)

-1 cucumber, sliced & peeled

– 2 teaspoon soy sauce

-2 tablespoon seasoned rice vinegar

-2 tablespoon cane sugar

-1/4 teaspoon sriracha chili garlic paste

-1/4 teaspoon sweet chili paste

-salt to taste

1. mix all ingredients together and coat cucumber slices-thinner slices seem to taste better ;) set aside until ready to eat, or chill if prepared earlier on

all 3 went really well together, we originially thought about doing the miso fish with a wasabi mashed potato but it was finally a real summer day here and the potatoes seemed too heavy-these two salads were crisp, freshing alternatives & both salads went really well together! we also served with lillet cocktails

mix 3 parts lillet to 1 part club soda + sliced orange – DELICIOUS and perfect for summer!

‘so that happened.’

2009/06/24

today is bike to work day. i left the house this morning (unfinished smoothie on the counter & all, :(  boo) and rode down to meet rachel in front of the glass towers. we both decided on our cruisers, since it’d be an excuse to go slower and really make us stand out that we were participating in BTWday, not the avid cherry creek bike path cyclists on their way to work-so yes, excuse us if we take up too much bike lane room so we can ride along side each other to talk and keep each other motivated to continue pedaling! ;) BUT all and all – we made it, and with good time, and all went smooth.

john on the otherhand-rides to work with gnarly in tow often…being one of those avid cyclists, who maintains a highspeed, knows all the trails and goes 8x as far as I rode this morning–but for fun. we bought one of those “burley” bike trailers for gnarly after she had her accident & was paralyzed to make it easy to get her around, not to mention possible for john to still bring her into work. johnny is a cyclist. helmet, padded shorts, spandex – the whole 9 yards,  but he wears his padded shorts when riding into work to save himself the spandex jokes. so this morning, mind you-on BTW day the 1 day a year where the bike trails are jammed pack with those of us who DON’T know what we’re doing…but are trying….he was riding in and when he got to a hill, stood up to get some extra oomph in his pedals-when his shorts got caught on his handlebars! they’re baggy shorts, almost like a padded version of swim trunks–but they have vents…and his vents were opened and it caught & well yes, you get it. squirming to keep up-right, trailing off the side of the path, falling over, scraping his elbow, gnarly using her burley as a roll-bar cage, and quickly reassembling himself to collect our now lose dog in the middle of the busy bike path & save whatever diginity he could. :) ha.

so that happened. :)

monday – 5 things i <3

2009/06/23

ok, ok i know–it’s tuesday. but i wasn’t at a computer long enough yesterday to be able to post-so here it is, a day late :)

1. http://www.target.com/Method-Hand-Wash-Sweet-Water/dp/B0022MJQ4A/sr=1-1/qid=1245789313/ref=sr_1_1/179-3816222-0795320?ie=UTF8&search-alias=tgt-index&frombrowse=0&index=target&field-browse=1038576&rh=k%3Amethod&page=1

41Eqz9On%2BJL._AA260_Method’s -Sweet Water – fragerance. In their hand-soap, reed diffuser, everything…it’s so refreshing and pretty :). I love it, it’s crisp enough that it’s not too girly but delicate enough to add that ‘female touch’. mmmm

2. http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25669025&ref=sr_list_4&&ga_search_query=birdcage+decals&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_page=&order=date_desc&includes[]=tags&includes[]=title

il_430xN.72807889

these awesome birdcage decals–or heck decals in general! such a fun funky way to spice up a room, roller shade (as shown in the photo), mirror, whatever. so chic, i think. i love these birdcage ones-but this etsy stores has lotsa good options. check em out.

 3. http://www.anonoptics.com/Grid.aspx?pId=3

223247421_A Anon Fairfax glasses. we only have 1 pair of these, in white, so johnny and i end up fighting over who gets to wear them…but i really like them for some reason. so simple, so lightweight. i think i may have to order up a pair in the navy!

4. http://www.origins.com/templates/products/sp_nonshaded.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY5806&PRODUCT_ID=PROD234

org_05AA_tall_lrgOrigin’s Ginger Up Conditioner. Smells sooooo good. I’ve always been a huge fan of ginger. (foods, drinks, and smells!) so I was pretty excited when I can across this stuff. I only wash my hair like 2-3 x week, so I don’t use the shampoo but I’m sure it smells just as great (I use the neutrogena anti-residue shampoo, since i do wash so infrequently to get out anything that builds up-try it out!) but I use this puppy daily! if not twice a day! :)

gempal

ha so this is one of my new fav. spots. the naja is a jewelry making supply store and they’ve been guiding my newly RE-found crafting habit. they helped supply many of the tools i used for wedding projects, as well as the two necklaces i recently made. they offer classes, but i have a feeling they’re geared towards a different style than i’m into-but i’ll be continue to come back for my supplies and tools!
